Podcast Reminds Listeners to Prioritize Preventive Care

Like so many others, our colleague Kim wasn’t excited to get bloodwork or visit a primary care doctor (PCP) annually because needles (ugh) and she’s generally healthy. But one of her biggest lessons from working in health care for more than 20 years has been the importance of staying up-to-date with preventive care services, which she discusses in this week’s episode, “You See Your PCP? Yeah, You Know Me!”

Kim, who focuses on diversity, inclusion and organizational development efforts at Nova, joins “Under the Coverage,” to share how her perspective evolved, from being fearful of doctor visits to now being an advocate for routine care.

“If you put things off, it can become catastrophic and then sometimes even irreversible if you wait too long,” she notes.

Kim explains how routine bloodwork and conversation with her PCP helped uncover why she had been feeling off, as well as other benefits of consulting with a medical professional, rather than turning to the Internet to research symptoms or test results.

“There’s contradictory information out there too,” she said. “So go to a professional, right. Your PCP. That’s what they’re there for.”
