Nova's Podcast Breaks Down Health Insurance Premiums
Ever wonder why your medical benefits cost an arm and a leg? The latest episode of Under the Coverage, Nova’s educational podcast, breaks down the reasons behind the high cost of insurance premiums in the United States.
According to KFF, the average health insurance premium costs in 2023 were $8,435 annually for single coverage and $23,968 for family coverage. In “Breaking Down Insurance Premiums for Medical Benefits,” hosts Jolene Myers, Nova’s manager of marketing, and Sara Fluskey, chief marketing & communications officer, dive deep into the dollars and cents of health care to help consumers better understand what’s driving up costs.
In this episode, listeners will explore:
- The average annual cost of medical coverage in the U.S.
- How chronic diseases and an aging population contribute to rising health care expenses
- Premium costs considerations when choosing a health plan
“If you’re in a high deductible plan, you probably spend a little more than if you’re in a PPO plan where it’s that fixed amount and then you have the copays with your plan, but one in five adults with insurance report that they are not getting care they need because of the cost between the flat out plan costs, but then adding in those copays and things and that’s a lot of deferred care that can ultimately lead to more expensive care,” notes Fluskey.
Tune into this episode for a quick, engaging, and informative discussion designed to help listeners become smarter health care consumers.
