Making Sense of Medical Bills and EOBs

Latest podcast episode helps listeners understand their health care costs

Ever get a bill from your doctor in the mail and wonder if it’s actually a bill? In the latest episode of “Under the Coverage,” Nova breaks down what an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is, what it tells you about your care and costs, and what to do if something doesn’t look right on your bill or EOB.

In “Understanding Medical Bills and EOBs,” hosts Sara Fluskey, Nova chief marketing & communications officer, and Jolene Myers, manager, marketing, explain common reasons you might receive a bill after a provider visit, such as an unmet deductible or using an out-of-network provider. They also walk listeners through how to read and understand your EOB, which comes from your health insurer or plan administrator after a claim is processed.

“The EOB explains how the claim was processed by the plan’s administrator, and that’s the point where you can check to see was everything billed correctly,” explains Fluskey. “Are those the providers I saw? Was it in network?”

Tune in to learn how to make sense of your medical bills and gain confidence in reviewing your health care costs.
